"I CAN'T FLY" - a new Children's e-book by award winning UK illustrator, Bill Bolton and writer Mark Shaw. When Bill sent me the illustrations & text I thought it was absolutely wonderful. And, even I learned a thing or two about the Albatross. It reminded me of the first time I saw the Wandering Albatrosses nesting on South Georgia Island in the sub-antarctic. It's overwhelming. As our headlines say, long line fishing has taken a terrible toll on these birds. TERRIBLE. When Bill Bolton saw a colony while visiting Otago Peninsula in New Zealand - he was inspired - enough to go home and tell the tale through an interactive, animated children's e-book about a fledgling Albatross and his quest to fly. I suspect Bill is a hopeless romantic and a love story evolves. As if this weren't enough Bill and Mark have donated 10% of their proceeds to the SAVE THE ALBATROSS FUND. So, I'm thinking "WE WANT IN" - Let our Foundation help get the word out to young people everywhere about how extraordinary the Albatross is - and what a world of danger they are in today. Education begins with our children - the Foundation will be offering wonderful illustrations from this book to our Crowdrise Friends for special donations to the Albatrosses. Expect to see a lot of Vernon and his main squeeze, Eulalia - they can get places FAST - An Albie is known to travel up to 2,630 miles in one day. Pretty impressive. So, get your wallet ready - and own a signed illustration by Bill Bolton of Vernon & Eulalia! We'll be posting the illustrations in the next few weeks. Don't miss the opportunity to get the e-book - in fact BUY IT NOW. But, the illustrations are very limited. Keep your eyes open and look for Vernon & Eulalia - They are the Largest Seabird in the World - and they have a wing span of up to 12 feet - You can't miss them!
Thank you to Munwha Broadcasting (MBC) in Seoul, So. Korea for their generous donation that will cover a large portion of the R&D for our bait setting device this year. We do not record Corporate donations over $25,000. on CR but want to recognize these filmmakers who are way South at the Australian Station on Antarctica right now - recording the breeding cycles of the Emperor Penguins for a special program in honor of MBC's 50th Anniversary next year. This is difficult work and the conditions are atrocious. We are very proud they came to us. Donation - $200,000.
Every year, tens of thousands of Albatrosses are killed in the world's longline fisheries; grabbing baited hooks intended for fish. Our foundation is making longline fisheries safer for these birds with new devices that have saved countless birds. We are always hampered by poor funding, particularly to support our work in developing countries. WE NEED YOUR HELP - NOW. Check out our web site! Photos: Courtesy of Graham Robertson
