Shunda
Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, but it has some of the hardest working people. They caught a bad break. I want to help them by raising money for Hope to Haiti.
I don't have any special skills that make me the best person to go on this trip. I'm not a master craftsman, an artist, or teacher. I don't speak French, even though I once took French lessons. I can't sew. I have never tried to raise funds for anything in my entire life, but I believe in this cause. Besides, this is not about my special skills that would enable me to do the work that Haitians are able to do themselves.
I have some qualities that make helping me get to Haiti a good choice:
I like children.
I am a hard worker.
I am compassionate.
I have volunteered with Habitat for Humanity.
I can count to 10 in French. I also know a few important phrases.
I am a people person.
I am trustworthy.
I donate to The Red Cross and other international and local charities, but not enough to earn me the privilege of being invited to see what my donation provided to the people I chose to help.
Participating in Hope To Haiti 2012 will give me a unique opportunity to see the fruits of my and my supporter's efforts firsthand, to meet the amazing Haitian thinkers behind the Jacmel efforts, some amazing teammates, and the hardworking Haitians who are toiling to rebuild their country and bring back a firsthand account of the wonderful work being done in Haiti to share with Hope to Haiti supporters and possible future supporters.
