Information in the digital age is powerful in a lot of ways. One of the most incredible things about sharing information digitally is that it can traverse great distances almost instantly. Now, we can read about things going on overseas as they are happening. Videos and images allow us to view and understand other cultures without traveling away from home.
Projects undertaken by SI ASB interns will further the digitization and preservation of cultural artifacts, develop websites for cultural institutions and create finding aids for cultural collections, among other work. By helping fund these internships, you will be contributing to a global conversation about the importance of preserving and sharing information.
ABOUT SI ASB
SI's Alternative Spring Break program allows students to spend one week interning at various institutions in Chicago, New York, Detroit and Washington D.C. Instead of relaxing on a beach somewhere, SI students work on service projects at organizations that don't always have the staff or funds to do the projects themselves. This year, SI students will be volunteering at sites like the Library of Congress, the Folger Shakespeare Library, Columbia University, the Smithsonian Institution, among many others.
