BENEFITING: The Patricia M. Sitar Center for the Arts
THE STORY:
The Sitar Arts Center is an after school arts education program for children and teenagers in the Adams Morgan area of DC. It is a truly amazing place, filled with truly amazing students. No words I put here will do it justice, but I can honestly say that the Center has changed the lives of any number of people--the children who attend classes, the families who know their children have a safe place to go after school, the teachers who volunteer their time, and those of us who donate to the Center knowing that every penny goes to help a child experience the joy of painting, dancing, acting, laughing and just being a kid.
It costs about $1,000 for one student to attend one semester of classes at the Center, and around 80% of the students pay what they can, which is $15-55 per semester. That means the Center needs people like us.
My birthday is around the corner, and while I am not adverse to celebrating with everyone, this year I thought it might be nice to give gifts instead of receiving them. Please donate! In honor of children everywhere . . .
