Every morning I wake up at 5 am to get ready to make the hour commute to my school in boyle heights, a low income community in east LA. I tutor in a classroom from 8-1:30 then help run an after school program from 2:30-5:30. This, of course, is a brief summary of what I do and if you could only see the blood, sweat, and tears that go into my job on a daily basis you might be a little shocked. Fridays and saturdays are the days I get to relax, and by relax I mean spend my day beautifying a school or cleaning a park. Sunday I write lesson plans and get 8 hours of sleep (4 more than I sleep every other day of the week) as I dream about the next day at school.
I am truly proud of the service I have provided and can say that this experience has opened my eyes to the astonishing efforts young people can make in one year.
Give a year. Change the world.
WHY YOU SHOULD VOTE FOR ME:
I may be young, but I am passionate and dedicated to my cause. :D PLEASE VOTE!

Happy April, CR friend!
Reader to Reader is auctioning off some great artwork to raise funds for our many international programs, thanks to our friends at the ART4GOOD Foundation. If you like art, books, or education, stop by and take a look at the 35 beautiful pieces available! http://bit.ly/HjFtMO
You get a beautiful piece of art, and RTR can:
-provide special education programs for children in the Dominican Republic;
-teach women to read in Nigeria;
-keep abandoned children in childhood through reading and improve theater in rural China;
-sponsor Haitian kids to finish school;
-continue to grow our public library in a coffee-farming Costa Rican village;
AND support many other programs that do wonderful work in India, Mexico, Nicaragua, Kosovo, Ghana and other countries.
If art isn’t your thing, you can still support our programs by donating or joining our team. Take a look at my projects to see more of what we do.
All the best, and HAPPY READING,
Kat
