THE STORY:
Bal Ashram, situated on the banks of the Holy River Ganges in Varanasi, India, is a safe home for children who have no means to further their lives or who are caught in extremely dysfunctional life situations. Many such children wish to go to school, but due to their unfortunate life circumstances, they are forced into the child labor market. Living with their parents or alone on the streets, their dreams cannot come true. For these children to continue their education, they need a sheltered and supportive home. Bal Ashram provides this place with love and care.
Bal Ashram asked me to help raise money so they could purchase a solar oven so they could (a) teach the kids how to bake, (b) make food for the other kids in the orphanage, and (c) sell the food at reduced prices to the local community as a way of supporting the orphanage and helping the local community. We raised the full $15,000 they needed and you can see the kids with their new solar oven. Can't wait to visit them.
