Support our mission by creating your own fundraiser.
The program began as a challenge by a Los Angeles continuation high school teacher to a group of his students to train with him to run The LA Marathon. The premise was simple: Take a group of teens who either had no direction or the wrong direction, and help them accomplish something extraordinary. Success was immediate. Not only did the students complete the marathon, they all graduated from high school.
By 1993 the program caught on as an innovative and effective dropout prevention and life skills program that challenges at-risk students to experience the benefits of goal setting, character development, adult mentoring and improved health. Today, the program has grown to more than 450 leaders and 3000 students from 175 schools and community programs across Greater Los Angeles. More than 45,000 students have been served, and the success of the program continues: More than 95% of SRLA students complete the marathon each year, and 95% of SRLA seniors graduate from high school.
Donate today! Keep a student healthy, in school and on the way to a brighter future.
