THE STORY:
HALL FOUNDATION wrote -
Tackling global poverty starts at home. New York City, a city widely known for its tremendous resources, has been hit hard by the current recession and the city and state governments are slashing budgets across the board. One of the most hard hit areas of the budget is public education; non-core programming through schools is being widely cut, meaning that athletic teams, music, arts and clubs are being phased out in many areas of the city. It is in this strapped-for-cash environment that the Steps Foundation’s mission and potential to change lives for the better is most urgent and relevant.
The Steps Foundation is already involved with New York City youth programming and has plans to expand its role in the city’s most under-served neighborhoods soon. Currently, Steps partners with the New York Road Runners (NYRR) organization to sponsor youth running clubs in each of the city’s five boroughs. Visit the link below to learn more about the Sunset Park Runners, one of many clubs sponsored by the Steps Foundation throughout New York.
