HERE'S THE STORY:
This year, Team Herman will be making an appearance at the Los Angeles Marathon on March 18th with 3, possibly 4 team members; and the American River 50-mile Endurance Run on April 7 with just 1 crazy team member and several support! ;)

Here's Raciel's Story:
In March 2011, I, Raciel, embarked on what was to be my 10th marathon. But what made that milestone even more important was that it was the first time my sisters and I raised funds for charity, first in our friend's honor, but later on, in his memory.
Herman Atienza was more than a friend to us; he was our big brother. When we found out in November 2010 that he was diagnosed to Pancreatic Cancer, we did not know how to react and what to do. It was only around January 2011 that we finally came to our senses and decided to raise funds for the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research in his honor.
On March 1st, 2011, 19 days shy of our team running the Los Angeles Marathon, Herman passed away succumbing to the disease. Race day arrived and it was made even more memorable by having the worst weather with what was dubbed the "Storm of the Century." Knowing that Herman was watching over the Team from above, Raciel finished with a personal best; one of her fastest times running any marathon and exceeded the Team Herman fundraising goal thanks to generous Angels.
We hope that you can help us continue running in Herman's memory by supporting this fundraiser to benefit the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer and perhaps we'll be one step closer to eradicating this disease!
