THE STORY:
Hi all!
On May 5th, I'll be running in the Frederick Running Festival's Twilight 5K.
In addition to beating my time from last year's race, I am hoping to raise some money for the Nature Conservancy in Maryland, Washington DC and Virginia. The Nature Conservancy is a nonprofit conservation organization that works around the world to protect ecologically important lands and waters for the benefit of nature and people.
Locally, the Nature Conservancy is involved in restoration of the Chesapeake Bay which has been degraded over the last 100 years due to pollution and loss of wildlife habitat.
The money raised will be used to plant millions of native baby oysters within the bay. Oysters are an essential part of the Chesapeake Bay ecosystem since they provide nurseries and feeding grounds for fish and crabs while also improving local water quality. The baby oysters planted will also help to increase the size of wild populations in the bay.
