THE STORY:
There are many different factors that lead to poverty and homelessness. No two homeless people have the same story, but the one thing they do share is their need for help. I am proud to have been a part of SPIN for the last 6 years and hope to always be! Their passion and dedication to helping those families and individuals who need it most is incredible-I respect the fact that they don't give a "hand out" but a "hand up" to help those who have lost their way get back on their feet.
If it weren't for organizations like SPIN I am not quite sure where I would be today. For reasons that I could not control, my mom, brother and I found ourselves homeless for two years starting when I was 8 years old. It was quite possibly the worst feeling seeing the looks we would get living out of our car, and I won't even get into how tough school was! But by the grace of God and help from non-profits like SPIN we were able to survive and look back on it with humor. I wouldn't trade that experience for anything, but knowing there are other families out there struggling like we did motivates me to make a difference in any way possible.
