STUFF ABOUT ME:

In December 2011 I was invited to be one of three individuals to run in one of the world's most prestigious marathons while raising money to support for an area non-profit organization.  I enthusiastically accepted the invitation and am currently training for the 2012 Boston Marathon taking place on April 16, 2012

Issues pertaining to K - 12 public education remain very near and dear to my heart, having spent much of my time working on these issues while earning my law degree and Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership from UNC Chapel Hill. Shortly after moving to Boston in 2007, I began volunteering with Boston Partners in Education (BPE), a Boston non-profit organization  that partners with Boston's public schools and students to provide in-school tutoring and mentoring.

During my time as a BPE School Volunteer I was an after-school math and literacy tutor, a career enrichment speaker, offered my assistance in the early planning of an outreach group geared towards young professionals, and interacted with BPE through my role on the Boston Bar Association's Children and Youth Task Force.  BPE's School Volunteer program has received numerous awards and accolades and I can think of few other organizations I would rather support through my marathoning efforts.

Having attended a large, urban, public school for the vast majority of my primary and secondary education, and can personally attest to the fact that as amazing and engaged as my parents were, that the presence of coaches, tutors, mentors, after-school counselors, and volunteers in my life and in my school, made a lasting and significant impact.  PLEASE consider making a donation of $1000, $500, $250, $100, $50, $25, $10, $5 or any amount you can to ensure that Boston Partners in Education can continue providing these same opportunities for Boston's public school students.  No donation is too small or large!  As a member of Team Boston Partners in Education, I along with my two teammates will participate in a marathon training program and have each committed to a $5,000 fundraising goal.

And if you know anyone who might be interested in supporting, please pass this on.  I THANK YOU in advance!

WHY YOU SHOULD VOTE FOR ME:

I might not be the best Volunteer or Fundraiser but I'm decent at it and I can't think of a downside of throwing a vote my way.

"The Old Year has gone. Let the dead past bury its own dead. The New Year has taken possession of the clock of time. All hail the duties and possibilities of the coming twelve months!" ~Edward Payson Powell

"We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day." ~Edith Lovejoy Pierce

"We spend January 1 walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives... not looking for flaws, but for potential." ~Ellen Goodman

Stopping by to wish you a Happy New Year, and to leave you a January vote for the potential and opportunity that your work here on Crowdrise offers others =D
