Susan Hamelin founded The Lung Connection months after her own lung transplant in 2003. She worked persistently and with a great deal of passion towards providing a safe, clean, comfortable place to recover. Susan passed away on January 25, 2011.
In March, 2011 we officially changed our name to Transplant Living Centers. Originally set up to house lung transplant patients, we expanded our services to all transplant patients as well as other patients and their families undergoing medical procedures in the Denver area. Our goal is to expand outside the Denver area to other cities that are in need of patient housing.
Transplant Living Centers is a comprehensive, unique housing and support resource. We provide patients and their families’ safe, clean, comfortable and affordable housing as they recover from transplant surgery requiring them to stay in the Denver Metro area for an average of three months. Our goal is to prevent these out of town patients from having to share a hotel room with their families during the weeks or months of treatment at area hospitals. Our two-bedroom, two-bathroom fully furnished condominiums are home when you can’t be in your own home.
We work with families around payment arrangements and never turn anyone away for lack of funds.
We are an independent non-profit corporation designed by lung transplant recipients and their caregivers and families. We provide comprehensive short term housing and support for patients and their families, both before and after surgery.
Patients and caregivers from other hospitals and treatment centers are welcome on a space available basis. TLC supports and facilitates the protocol of the University of Colorado Hospital Transplant Team.
