STUFF ABOUT ME:
During my 3rd year of studies for my PhD in Immunology, I realized I needed to get back to what I love most... volunteering.
It was the best decision of my life and now I am a Program Director for the most awesome non-profit in the history of non-profits, the Incentive Mentoring Program.
Why is IMP awesome?
Each year, we take the 16 kids most at risk of failing out of high school their freshmen year in Baltimore City and build a support system of mentors (mostly grad and medical school students) around each of them. Our sole purpose is in helping them graduate from high school and going to college or finding a job.
How are we awesome?
Each student is in a family of 6-8 mentors and we do whatever it takes to help our student succeed academically and in life. Most of our students lack the very basic support systems that helped most of our mentors succeed in their lives. We don't just tutor... we give rides to school, we provide legal assistance to families, we help stave off evictions... whatever it takes. And we follow each of them for 8 years. I'm not joking.
Do you have proof of IMP's awesomeness?
Absolutely. The high school graduation rate for baltimore city students is less than 40%, the graduation rate of all students enrolled in IMP is over 95%. Our first cohort of students will be graduating college soon and some have already started to give back by becoming mentors themselves (some internationally).
WHY YOU SHOULD VOTE FOR ME:
A vote for me is a vote for IMP. And now by the transitive property, since IMP is awesome, I am awesome as well. so that is why you should vote for me.
