THE STORY:

Elise Marie Myrvang Eikeland wrote -

During the first months of 2011 large parts of USA has been struck by devestating and deadly tornadoes. Houndreds of people have tragically lost their lifes in these terryfing storms. Thousands are now left homeless with nowhere to go. Further more floods from the Mississippi river has flooded and devestated many communities.

Oklahoma, Missouri, Alabama, Georgia, North-Carolina, South-Carolina, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Mississippi Tennessee and Virginia are among the states affected by these deadly natureforces . Since 31st of March 2011 American Red Cross has initiated 29 relief operations in 22 states.

“The American Red Cross is making sure people have a safe place to stay and food to eat.  We will be there as long as needed as families struggle to get through this terrible tragedy.” said Richard White, Executive Director of the Southern Arizona Chapter. “The Red Cross is working in communities across a large part of the country helping people affected by these storms.”

National Guard Troops are currently helping in the search and rescue missions in many affected states. Alabama was the state that got hit the hardest, while in the city of Joplin, MO there was about 50 000 inhabitants and now 75% of the town have dissapeard. The tornado in Joplin is the worst tornado to hit USA in over 50 years. Schools, firestations, hospitals, airports like the one in St. Louis, and other important official buildings have so far this year been hit by devestating tornadoes. Electricity and phonelines are currently out in many places. Many US states have now been declared as states of emergency.

Disaster workers, materials and equipments are now being sent into the state. In addition to this, emergency response vehicles and 25 000 ready-to-eat-meals are being shipped to the people in need of aid.So much is now being done to help the victims and to save lifes. Red Cross Blood Service and Red Cross nurses is now were the help is needed the most. Many need mental help after what they have gone through and American Red Cross is now providing with this support.

Further more several Red Cross shelters have now been set up for those needing a place to stay.  Red Cross shelters are open in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Missouri, Indiana, Kentucky, Arkansas, North Carolina and Texas.

“Our thoughts and sympathies are with those who lost loved ones or have suffered through these deadly storms,” said Charley Shimanski, senior vice president, Red Cross Disaster Services. “Red Cross disaster teams are working around the clock to help the thousands of people whose lives are turned upside down, more Red Cross assistance is on the way.”  “Our top priority right now is to provide food and shelter to the thousands of people throughout the South and Midwest affected by these storms,” Shimanski said

With this project I am now reaching out my hands to help all the victims through the lifegiving aid that American Red Cross Disaster Relief is giving. I hope that all Crowdrisers now join hands and donate to give all help possible for the people affected by these tornadoes, and devestating natureforces that comes with them.
