On average, kids in the USA devote 7 hours and 38 minutes every day to using entertainment media. So why don't we teach them how it's made? So they can express themselves and direct movies instead of just watching them, design games instead of just playing them, have their voices be a part of the conversation, and have the tools to tell their side of the story.

Tribeca Teaches® is a program developed by the Tribeca Film Institute to do just that. An in-school and after-school arts education program, Tribeca Teaches® provides students and educators with the resources to create documentary films, gain exposure to independent films and filmmakers, and to use film as an educational tool in the classroom.

Since its launch in 2007, Tribeca Teaches® has served nearly 3,000 of New York City students through hands-on youth media programming and in 2012 expanded to Los Angeles, with an after-school digital storytelling program at Lennox Middle School.  

Tribeca Teaches® 2012 will culminate in April with a Red Carpet Premiere of the students’ films at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival. From now until the premiere, we are aiming to raise $40,000 so that Tribeca Teaches® can expand to up to four additional schools across the country!
