Jacquelyn Shaw's Fundraiser:
Running for Rare Diseases
Jacquelyn
EVENT: 2010 ING New York City Marathon
EVENT DATE: Nov 07, 2010
HERE'S THE STORY:
My dad's strength and courage in his battle with esophageal cancer inspire me to push harder through each mile in my first marathon race on November 7th.
Esophageal cancer is one of the 7,000 rare diseases that affect over 30 million Americans. Rare diseases affect under 200,000 people, meaning they often receive little funding and attention.
To help increase awareness and raise money for eliminating rare diseases, I'm asking you to contribute $1, $5, $20, $200 to Uplifting Athletes, a national nonprofit organization aligning college athletics with rare diseases and raising them as a national priority through outreach, research, education and advocacy. Uplifting Athletes' vision is my vision too - a climate that empowers people to take action against rare diseases and inspire the medical community to find cures.
Dad, this one's for you!
