HERE'S THE STORY:
Thank you to our friends and new friends for donating and making this vertical garden happen! Last Thursday, November 10th, we replaced the old vertical garden system at Miguel Contreras Learning Complex with a new system. We planted a variety of produce for the winter season including lettuces, beets, strawberries, cilantro, cauliflower and broccoli, just to name a few! The students will participate as they learn about gardening, teamwork, healthy nutrition, greening the environment and skills training through planting and exploring this innovative wall system, while also enjoying its beauty directly outside their classroom wall. In the Spring, we will have an event at the school to celebrate. We'll post more photos as the project unfolds. The Urban Farming™ Food Chain Edible Wall project was originally launched in 2008 at four downtown and Skid Row locations in Los Angeles. These are vertical farming gardens - from 24 to 30 feet long x 6 feet high - growing fresh, healthy produce at locations in the Skid Row and downtown areas.The old system at the high school was deteriorating and we replaced it with the amazing Woolly Pocket system, which is made of recycled plastic bottles! Thank you again for your amazing support and participation in the lives of these students and you are now a part of the Urban Farming Global Food Chain™! ... More than a gardening organization™.
