It says to write stuff about about me, but I imagine you want to know why I'm bugging you for money, not more about me, am I right?
About Steps:
Ryan and Sara Hall are runners. Good ones. They recently established the Hall Steps Foundation as a vehicle to combine their passion for running with their passion for social justice and to rope their running buddies – novice and pro – into sharing their dedication to good work. I got involved with their grant work supporting water projects in Africa (long story which I would be happy to share with you if you donate...) and now Steps is my most favoritest charity and full time focus. Our work is fresh, our team is frisky, and our energy makes those 5 hour energy commercials look listless. Our budget, however, well, it would benefit greatly from your help.
What do we do with the money when you donate it? Well might you ask:
(1) We give grants to improve:
Infrastructure – water services, hygiene
Security & Self Determination – human rights work, shelter provisions
Opportunities – Education, travel, employment, sport
Access to Technology – Data acquisition & transfer, accountability, transportation, communications, education, entertainment
(2) We also aim to expand the network of marathoners - for any kind of marathon activity - running, walking, biking, shopping, talking on the phone - who participate in poverty eradication work.
- Nonprofit Coordination – Helping to build support for anti-poverty organizations
- Policy Advocacy for Anti-Poverty Legislation Reform (See the http://www.globalpovertyproject.com/ for more info on this)
Steps is about more than raising money and making grants in the U.S. and abroad, we are founding, as Ryan puts it "a movement of radical runners." Anyway, we have a lot of work to do and I should probably get back to doing it. Thanks for reading, and for your support. Join us.
