BENEFITING: Carr Educational Foundation
EVENT: Bay to Breakers 2012
THE STORY:
For the last several years I have supported a wonderful school for exceptional Kenyan girls called the Daraja Academy. My husband, Mo, now sits on the Board of Directors and Mo and I are sponsoring a lovely, bright girl named Carol (pictured at right).
I will be joining a team of 150 strong on May 20th for the Annual Bay to Breakers race and partnering with the 104 Girls of Daraja in Kenya to raise money to support the new class of 2012. I am convinced that these girls will change lives -- their own as well as those of their communities and their country.
Please consider making a contribution to support these wonderful girls -- your gift will provide access to education for an exceptional and promising young woman who has no other way to get it...join us and make a difference to someone special! PLEASE Check out our video and see what makes Daraja so special!
Carol is a part of the media club, which falls in line with her aspirations of one day becoming a journalist. She loves taking photos, reading, and writing news reports. Carol led the creation of Daraja’s first ever school magazine, The Golden Mirror. “A mirror is a reflection of what it sees, and the magazine will be a reflection of the diversity and perspective of the girls of Daraja.” Carol’s proudest moment at Daraja came just recently when the Netball team went undefeated at a district competition. “Sometimes I need to use an inhaler,” Carol said, “and I was afraid that would hold me back. But I pushed myself to succeed, and not only did I make the team, I helped lead us to victory. I am so proud
of myself for not giving up.”
Thank you! Educated Girls will Change the World!
