BENEFITING: FRIENDS OF THE DESERT MOUNTAINS
They say if you want something done, asks a busy person to do it. We’d like to ask you to join our volunteer program, but that’s a little hard to do on this website. So instead, we’re asking you to help fund our volunteer program, so that we can get the word out locally to all those busy people who might be able to spare a little time to help us.
We have so many programs going on in the Monument that are free and open to the public. We are able to offer these for free because we have wonderful volunteers to help us run them. But we need to be able to recruit those volunteers, then train them and provide them with the necessary equipment to get the job done.
We have Hike Leaders who not only learn all about the native plants, animals and geology, but they also must learn CPR and first aid before they can lead the public. We have Land Stewards who go out into the wilderness and clear away unwanted vegetation, clean up trash on trails and maintain archeological sites. These folks need gloves and tools and water and transportation.
Our Education Team goes into the schools to teach the children about the natural environment or goes out to inform the community about conservation needs. They need training materials and PowerPoint projectors and laptops.
Our volunteers need all these things and we need you to help us provide them. So we can keep on providing as many free educational, interpretive and fun events as possible.
If you would like to join our volunteer program, go to our website at www.DesertMountains.org , but otherwise, please donate to support the Volunteer Services program.
