HERE'S THE STORY:

Earlier this year I learned a devastating fact. Today, there are nearly 100,000 Holocaust survivors living in poverty in Israel. Considering that they survived brutality and deprivation early in their lives, it seems unconscionable that in their old age they are living without life's basic necessities.I learned about the Holocaust in school and it brought so many emotions, but mostly I felt angry and ashamed for the atrocities committed by human kind but with this project we have a chance to do more than read about this horrific event in history books, we have the opportunity to provide real tangible help to the people who managed to survive an almost certain doom.
We cannot change the horrors Holocaust survivors have endured. But we can show them and ourselves we're committed to doing more than just remembering this tragic chapter in our history, Instead we can allow ourselves to become a better society, a society that helps those in need and doesn't look the other way. Over 60 years ago the world stood by while they suffered -- we remember, and we won't let it happen again.
