Established in 1999, YCAB Foundation was born out of concerns with the increasing incidence of drug abuse and street crime among Indonesia’s youth. YCAB is the abbreviation for the organization’s full name in the Indonesian language, Yayasan Cinta Anak Bangsa. Yayasan Cinta Anak Bangsa translates to “loving the nation’s children foundation”.
YCAB Foundation operates in Indonesia where more than 35 million people live below the national poverty line and makes under US$1/day. (UNDP) and more than 8 million Indonesians are unemployed. (Bank Indonesia, 2010). The country also sees 8 kids dropping out of school every minute.
YCAB’s focus is in the area of youth development. We at YCAB believe that inherent in our vision of youth development is the idea of economic independence. At YCAB, we enable youth to be independent through educational provisions, economic assistance and welfare creation for a better and sustainable future. We aim to help underpriviledged youth develop independence by becoming self-providing and self-responsible individuals. That is the road map of a true and responsible freedom.
