Barbara's fight with disease and illness
Organized by: Jerry Bozic
Those who know Barbara know that she has always been the life of the party. She has been an outstanding citizen contributing to society for most of her life. Stemming from an alcoholic and very abusive family herself, Barbara has managed to overcome with strength and vigor and developed a passion for others and their rights. Some of her many accomplishments consists of; working for the homeless, campaigning and gathering donations for the abused and battered women, POW's, toys for tots programs, as well as animal rights and rescue. She has also managed and headed children's youth groups for the Methodist Church with ages ranging from 10 through high school. Throughout the years Barbara has campaigned for the council persons to whom she believed would make a difference and better the community. Always willing to pay it forward and give of herself in any way that she is able, she would put other people first and never thought of herself. Now the page in her life has turned and she could use some help.
Due to several health issues that have arisen, she is suffering in many ways. Barbara's Doctors and specialists are working on ways to produce some quality to her life, to keep her comfortable, and to ease some of the suffering. Barbara has been diagnosed with RA (rheumatoid arthritis; An autoimmune disease characterized by chronic inflammation of joints and tissues in other areas of the body, such as the lungs, heart, and eyes. A systemic illness), Degenerative Arthritis ( chronic breakdown of cartilage in the joints), COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease - a condition that makes it hard to breathe and worsens over time), PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), Fibromyalgia (a condition that causes widespread pain, sleep problems, fatigue, and often psychological distress), and Bipolar among other things. Her spine has degenerated to the extent that a lot of her vertebrae are now touching with no cartilage as a cushion between them; some of them in her neck have actually broken into pieces. This along with a pinched nerve in her neck too. Lately she has also been suffering with stomach issues where her food is not digesting as it should, causing bloating and added pain. At first the specialists thought this could be Gastroparesis, but upon extensive testing they don't believe so. This is baffling to everyone. She is constantly in and out of the hospital. Her doctors have informed her that eventually she will need replacement of both hips. She is in excruciating pain most of the time and her pain medication no longer provides relief. She usually spends her days being bed ridden because she can't put weight on her legs and or hips.
Only having a good day every here and there, Barbara would like to be able to find some enjoyment and not have to spend her time worrying about the past due bills and where the next meal will come from. She is living for her family now, but is about to give up the fight because it is so overwhelming. Besides the utility bills and household needs, there are also medical bills and some medications that her insurance will not cover. These are life supporting meds. Barbara is on state assistance for food stamps, but that does not allow for much. She does use a food bank and that helps, but pretty much any meats, fruits, or vegetables she receives will spoil unless you eat it within the first couple of days.
I ask you please, if you can contribute even the smallest amount, it would really help Barbara's situation and possibly bring some quality back into her life so that she feels like continuing her fight for life. She deserves so much more than the hand that she has been dealt. You can also help by sharing this fundraiser so that others may see it. Pay it forward and it will come back to you. Blessings to all.
