Textwich Bee Fed and Bee Found on Skid Row
Organized by: Ellen Van Der Bosch
We are a group of families that have or had missing loved ones who are homeless and living on the streets. Many of the missing are from out of state and they are completely alone with literally just the clothes on their backs. Due to addiction and or mental health issues they have lost contact with their families. I came up with a way to locate our missing loved ones and we have indeed located the majority of the people we look for!! This is done by putting messages with their photo on it from their families on meals that are distributed to the homeless people in the areas we believe them to be. The homeless who receive the meals realize we are moms looking for our kids and they give us clues as to where to look for them. We are given information that they would not give to the police because there is a code of honor among them and they don't trust the police. They think that they could possibly be ratting out their friends and getting them arrested. When we locate the missing we reach out and see if they will call their family's to let them know they are alive. If they want help we have already put together an action plan to get them to detox rehabs or to the airport to return home. If they decide stay on the street we ask them if we can keep in touch and provide clothes and food and periodically check in on them. We place cards in the lunches the homeless receive to let them know they can call us too if they want to reconnect with their families and or get help as well. We have had some heartwarming success stories that are not only changing the lives of our subjects but their families too. I am devoted to this cause and am called to do this. Getting cash donations will allow me to have enough food for 800 sack lunches in addition to the 200 lunches being provided by The Funky Chef Food Truck. We also want to pass out new socks and used clothes at this event as well. Seeing these kids get off the street and getting help is the most amazing experience of my lifetime. On June 11th we are getting a food truck to go to skid row in Los Angeles and we are making hundreds of sack lunches so we can feed at least 1,000 people. While they are standing in line for lunch they will pass a wall of posters of missing people believed to be in Southern California in the hopes of getting tips on sightings and where to look for them. I am desperately in need of cash donations for this very unique event to pay for a lap top and a printer and food and socks. This is a grass roots effort and Together we want to make a difference.
