We at 1-Voice Trekking are on another mission!
On October 1st, approximately 21 hikers will be completing a 28 mile extreme hike along the Appalachian Trail, beginning at Reno Monument Road (well north of Harpers Ferry), traveling along the Chesapeake/Ohio Canal Towpath, crossing the Shenandoah River and ending at the trail head located next to the For Love of Children's (FLOC) Outdoor Center. The hikers will endure a tough hike starting just before midnight on the eve of the hike. It will take approximately 12 hours through the night and early morning to complete the hike. The trail will be as extreme in some areas as 1,200 feet in elevation over 1.5 miles. Hikers will have appropriate support at all times.
The end of the hike will kick off a party at FLOC's Outdoor Center where the hikers will wrap up their trek and celebrate. Family members and friends will be able to meet the hikers at the trail head of the Appalachian Trail and hike the last mile to the Outdoor Center together.
The 28 mile significance is to celebrate the 28 years FLOC's Outdoor Center has been in existence and doing great things for kids.
Hikers will be challenging themselves both mentally and physically by hiking and connecting with an organization that is reaching out and loving kids in WV and DC that don't have anyone. Each hiker is being asked to do their best to raise a personal donation goal of $500 each to benefit the FLOC Outdoor Center.
Please feel free to visit For Love of Children's website and see for yourself the great things they are doing.
