Like a vast majority of Black Americans, I grew up in a single parent household where the value of education was considered but not held as a high priority. In accordance with Maslow's hierarchy of needs, it was the immediate goal in my family to survive. However, apart of my survival was in a book or scripture to get closer to the one who created and find my purpose in life.
After having my right kidney removed in 2011 and subsequently taking my Shahada with my 9 year old daughter, I realized a passion that I have surpressed for years: teaching. I was not able to finish my Bachelors Degree, in Culinary Management, as a result of my surgery. I now homeschool my daughter. Being only 10 classes away from completing my degree is what is keeping me away from being able to enter into an exceptional TESOL course where I would recieve my certification to teach English abroad in other countries.

So I am asking for the help of the public, Ummah, to help me in achieving this goal. I want to show my daughter what it truly means to never give up. Allah changes the condition of those who make an effort to change it themselves.

Note: The School that I was attending: The Art Institute of Pittsburgh- Online. I had previously graduated from The International Culinary School at the Art Institute of Atlanta with an Associates of the Arts in Culinary Arts. In order to be considered for any Teaching English as a Second Language position abroad I must have a Bachelors degree or higher.
