Organized by: Lee Torres
1000 Miles Complete!
March 06, 2016
PROPOSE: Bring awareness to DiGeorge Syndrome and Infant Congenital Heart Defects.
MY GOAL: To run 10, 100 mile ultra runs this year- 1000 miles for Peanut
BENEFITTING: Ronald McDonald House, Oak Lawn IL, Advocate Children's Hospital, Oak Lawn IL and The Mended Little Hearts Organization
Robert Bowman(Peanut), my grandson, was diagnosed with DiGeorge Syndrome a few weeks after he was born. He had a severe heart defect as a result of his condition which required open heart surgery when he was 4 months old. He was plagued with constant setbacks which resulted in numerous hospitalizations. He suffered a sudden heart attack at the age of 9 months and passed a month later, August 29, 2014.
I am not only Peanut's grandma, but also an ultrarunner. In honor of my grandson, I am attempting to run 10, 100 mile ultraruns in the next year (2015) to raise awareness to the condition that robbed my grandson of his future.
Through your generosity, I am hoping to not only bring awareness to DiGeorge Syndrome and congenital heart defects, but also raise funds to benefit the Ronald McDonald House, Advocate Children's Hospital of Oak Lawn, IL and Mended Little Hearts Organization, Chicago.
The Ronald McDonald house, staff and volunteers provided us with a welcome, stable, environment during Peanut's hospitalization. They not only made it possible for us be close to him, but enabled his sister to stay in a welcome, homelike atmosphere with the various facilities and activities she needed to feel secure.
Another benefactor, Advocate Children's Hospital, where Peanut spent a majority of his time. The staff there provided compassionate, caring, comfort and support through his numerous treatments.
The final benefactor is the Mended Little Hearts Organization which provides support for families of infants with congenital heart defects.
Please visit our Prayers for Robert FB Page where Robert's last hospital stay is beautifully documented.
