1000 Smiles - Temple Dental in Negril
Organized by: Andrea Campoli
We are a group of full-time dental students at the Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry and are ¾ of the way to becoming dentists! In late August we will be traveling to Negril, Jamaica as apart of the 1000 Smiles Dental Project to provide dental services to patients who are greatly in need of our care. In rural Jamaica, there can be as little as only 1 dentist for every 100,000 people. We will be providing these underprivileged areas with much needed dental services such as fillings, cleanings, extractions, sealants, oral health education, and other services they do not readily have access to. With tourism being one of the leading industries in Jamaica, the services we provide can be the difference between gaining employment and no employment at all. The 1000 Smiles Dental Project provides free access to dental care and education to families in the Caribbean. As excited as we are to use what we have learned to help those in need, we could all use help financing this trip as many of us are living off student loans. We will be responsible purchasing our own materials, supplies, and dental instruments. ANY and ALL contributions would be greatly appreciated and get us closer to delivering dental care to those most in need! As little as $5 dollars will help put a smile on someone's face!
