THE STORY:

On  August 19th I will be running the Leadville 100 Trail run thanks to New Balance and the New Balance foundation in behalf of the 100 MILE CLUB.

Can $10 change a life?

Every $10 donated sponsors one kid for an entire year!

These are the kids most at risk of obesity or Juvenile diabetes.
IFor the price of a latte and scone at your favorite coffee shop, you can help a child achieve true personal success through goal setting and exercise.put a child on a path to good health. My goal is to raise $1,000 and help change the lives of 100 kids.  Even I only raise $10 or change live of one kid it will be worth it There is no Non-profit that I care more about than the 100 MILE CLUB.  I have seen it first hand change the lives of not only the kid's in the program but also in the families who get inspired by their children's new found love for running and exercise. My nephews were part of the program and now my sister is even bringing to the school that she teaches at.  I have ran races in the past, talked at schools and even ran across the entire country raising awareness about children’s fitness and helping sponsor kids in the 100 mile program. If you can spare $10 or more  to help change childs life I humbly thank you.:)  _________________________________________________________
The 100 Mile Club® is the brainchild of Kara Lubin, a special-education teacher who had a classroom full of students who couldn't sit still. Kara started small, asking her kids to run every morning for 10 minutes. She noticed a difference in their behavior within a week; her classroom was full of more engaged and focused kids. Now, 25 years later, 100 Mile Club® will reach more than 1 million students in over 4000 schools nationwide. 100 Mile Club® is successfully winning the battle against childhood obesity and inactivity: one child, one school, and one community as a time. Realizing physical activity has a significant impact of the health status of our kids and our community, The 100 Mile Club has created a simple, innovative, sustainable answer to the current health crisis in our youth: daily physical activity in a nonthreatening, supportive, inclusive environment. Our concept is simple and easy to implement. We put a new creative spin on the simple act of walking or running by creating an incentive program that adds excitement while teaching children how to become responsible and accountable for their own success. The 100 Mile Club serves all kids, ages preschool through high school. We serve youth in all regions: urban, suburban, and rural. We serve all populations: privileged and at-risk. We serve all abilities: from the student who discovers running as a new talent, to the child who physically struggles to put one foot in front of the other. The 100 Mile Club transcends race, gender, ability, socioeconomic status, and lifestyle. We serve and inspire all kids to run and to be the very best they can be. Exercise helps to maintain a healthy weight, yet studies show most children do not get enough exercise at home or in school. The financial strain of our economy has parents working harder with less time to spend with their children doing physical activities. The 100 Mile Club® addresses the issue of childhood obesity and inactivity using a safe, fun and consistent program that can be modified to fit the needs of all children. The program can be tailored for use before school, during or after school. Evidence supports participation in physical activities can reduce self-destructive behavior, negative social activity, crime, racism, isolation, loneliness and alienation in children and youth as well as reducing the probability of obesity. "Physical fitness is an intrinsic part of the educational process, not something to be sidelined or avoided," said Dr. Robert K. Ross, president and CEO of the California Endowment." Statewide physical fitness test scores in participating schools are consistently improving. The 100 Mile Club® is more than just a physical fitness program. We improve the quality of life for kids and their entire family. We provide these at risk children with hope, camaraderie and the knowledge that they can be successful in school and beyond. With the ultimate goal of running or walking 100 miles in a school year, we hope to change the way kids feel about fitness, their bodies and their health. It does not matter where they are physically, they can reach any goal they set. The 100 Mile Club® is successfully winning the battle on childhood obesity and inactivity one child, one school, one community at a time.
