BENEFITING: EMPOWER SPINAL CORD INJURY INCORPORATED
Mileage Tracker: 90
I have never seen a more appropriate tagline. My little sister, Carrie Callahan, has started a charitable organization called EMPOWER SCI dedicated to helping victims of spinal cord injuries lead more fulfilling, more independent lives. EMPOWER achieves this goal by conducting a program every summer that offers participants an opportunity to grow through adaptive therapies, peer mentoring, and professional counseling. They held an inaugural one week program this past summer, and I was lucky enough to witness the magic first-hand. I watched as the lives of the EMPOWER participants were changed. My life was changed a bit as well...
The EMPOWER SCI team is in the process of raising money for an extended 4-week program during the summer of 2013. I saw what they were able to accomplish in one week - I can't wait to see the impact they will have over the course of a full month. I have decided to dedicate myself to doing something to help the EMPOWER team raise the necessary money to hold their 2013 program.
I have set a goal to run 100 documented miles in off-road races between now and the beginning of the next EMPOWER program scheduled for July of 2013. I have never been much of a runner so this will certainly be a challenge, but I will run in honor of the EMPOWER participants that are challenging themselves every day to overcome obstacles and live the fullest, most EMPOWERed life they can.
I am asking for your sponsorship in my quest to raise $2500 for EMPOWER SCI. Please consider donating to this amazing cause. Every dollar counts. Thank you!
