10 for Jordan is a fundraiser for PKU research and will work to cover two charities at once. The money raised will go to PKU research (Phenylketonuria (PKU) is a rare condition in which a baby is born without the ability to properly break down an amino acid called phenylalanine) through MACPAD (Mid-Atlantic Connection for PKU and Allied Disorders) and the 10 inches of hair cut off will be donated to Locks of Love.
Hi! My name is Elizabeth Carlin but my friends call me Mizzi. I am 11 years old and I am in 6th grade. I enjoy acting, art, writing and much, much more. But this isn't about me, this is about all the kids out there that are fighting a battle.
On November 23, 2014 I will cut 10 inches of my hair off for PKU research and donate it to Locks of Love.
I have a friend named Jordan, he's 9 and he has PKU. Jordan is funny and nice. What exactly is PKU? PKU is diagnosed at birth and is genetic. It is when you can have little or no protein because your body can't break it down. Jordan eats special foods to meet his needs. When ever Jordan (or Gordan as my brother calls him) comes over, I eat what he eats because we are friends, we both love fruit roll-ups. PKU is not cureable, this means Jordan will have PKU for the rest of his life, unless a cure is found.
I met Sally at the GoGold Yarn Bomb event for pediatric cancer in Brooklyn. Sally is 2years old and has Leukemia. Sally undergoes treatments to help her get better and because of the medicine has lost her hair. Meeting her made me want to donate my hair to a child who doesn't have any because of cancer. Locks of Love makes wigs out of real human hair.
Inspiration right in my neighborhood! Being friends with Jordan is a huge reason why I want to raise money for PKU reasearch and meeting Sally made me want to give away my hair.
My feeling is that its just hair, it will grow back so why not cut it for a cause or in this case two! Jordan has PKU and Sally has Cancer that's not going to change without research.
Help me meet my fundraising goal of $500 and maybe someday in Jordan and Sally's life-time a cure will be found. And don't worry I will still cut my hair even if I don't reach my goal.
