BENEFITING: UNICEF USA
EVENT DATE: Sep 28, 2014
I am preparing for my first race since moving to New Paltz. As always, I have joined Team UNICEF, which allows me to represent and support a cause close to my heart.
We are so lucky, and we should be so grateful -- our luck should be contagious. When you feel wronged, think that every day 18,000 children around the globe die simply because they don't have access to clean water, or food, or protection. This number should be zero. People should think of it every day.
Participating in athletic events as a fundraiser for UNICEF is one way for me to show my empathy with the anguish of so many parents who have to helplessly watch their kids get hungrier and sicker. I am not only running for myself, but also on their behalf, and on behalf of the children who suffer and die in need of the things that we take for granted.
Please join in -- with your athletic power (run a race as a UNICEF team member), with your warm thoughts of support, but most of all with your donations. I'm asking my friends and family and all who view my page to help me support UNICEF by making a donation on my behalf, and in return, I promise to do my best.
This is the first race longer than 10km that I will be running (and hopefully finishing :) since 2007. The thought of its fundraising aspect has encouraged me throughout my training, and will keep me going the day of the race. I am planning to run the 10 trail miles in 1 hour and 20 minutes (at an average pace of 8 min/mile). Feel free to bet or bid on my ability (or lack of it) to do so, as long as this entails a maching donation :P
Here's a link to the Pfalz Point Trail Challenge race page. If you are in NY, do come along. The views are breathtaking.
