BENEFITING: National Peace Corps Association
EVENT DATE: Feb 27, 2014
For the past nine years, the National Peace Corps Association (NPCA) has called upon the Peace Corps community to unite for a National Day of Action. On that day, all supporters of the Peace Corps are urged to reach out to their members of Congress to support a strong and vibrant Peace Corps.
2013 saw the largest Day of Action so far. Along with lots of communication from all around the country, over 90 advocates were on Capitol Hill. Coming from 25 states, our advocates participated in nearly 150 congressional meetings, including 88 constituent meetings and 43 meetings with new members of Congress. On top of that, information packets were distributed to all 535 congressional offices.
While phone calls and emails are sent to Capitol Hill, a contingent of advocates converge on Capitol Hill for a day full of meetings with Senators, Congressmen/women, or other congressional staff.
This year's National Day of Action will be February 27, 2014. (Watch the video from last year!)
It costs almost $18,000 to run the day of action, including
- packet printing and preparation,
- buttons, pins and bags,
- breakfast, lunch and a thank-you reception for the advocates,
- staff time, transportation, orientation conference calls.
This adds up to about $150 per advocate. We hope that our Capitol Hill advocates and other supporters will start their own fundraiser to help make this event our must successful yet! Thank you!
