12 for Jordan is a fundraiser for PKU research and will work to cover two charities at once. The money raised will go to PKU research (Phenylketonuria (PKU) is a rare condition in which a baby is born without the ability to properly break down an amino acid called phenylalanine) through MACPAD (Mid-Atlantic Connection for PKU and Allied Disorders) and for every $12 raised we will donate a winter item such as gloves, hat or scarf to CHIPS. CHIPS is a local organization that helps those who are less fortunate. CHIPS prepares hot, nutritious meals and serves them to the hungry in a caring & respectful environment. They are a wonderful asset to their community! Hi! My name is Elizabeth Carlin but my friends call me Mizzi. I am 13 years old and I am in 8th grade. I enjoy acting, singing, sea creatures and much, much more. But this isn't about me, this is about all the kids out there that are fighting a battle. I have a friend named Jordan, he's 11 and he has PKU. Jordan is funny and nice. What exactly is PKU? PKU is diagnosed at birth and is genetic. It is when you can have little or no protein because your body can't break it down. Jordan eats special foods to meet his needs. When ever Jordan comes over, I eat what he eats because we are friends, we both love fruit roll-ups. There is no cure for PKU, this means Jordan will have PKU for the rest of his life, unless a cure is found. Healthy food is important for everyone wether you have PKU or not. Local food pantries are in need of local support. There are a number of individuals, right in our own neighborhoods and schools that depend on food pantries to provide them with at least one meal a day or ongoing support when they can not provide a healthy meal for their family. Help me meet my fundraising goal of $500 and maybe someday in Jordan life-time a cure will be found and by donating to this fundraiser you will also be helping to support a local food pantry! This fundraiser will run through November 23 ----- 12 for Jordan - - 11/23/2016 - - -- and its his 12th birthday!
Some day I hope we can eat pizza and cupcakes together!
