BENEFITING: Carolina Theatre of Durham, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Mar 18, 2017
9 regular folks are watching 12 full-length feature films in a row, to raise money for independent theaters.
We don't run, but imagine it's 3am, and you've just watched 8 movies in a row... and you're about to watch 4 more; we think this marathon is hard in its own way.
This is serious business, because we care deeply about independent film, and the theaters that bring these films to the masses. Independent theaters matter. They do crazy stuff that nobody else can do, and one day, this marathon will spread until there are hundreds of groups raising money for their local independent theaters.
This particular marathon is raising money for the Carolina Theatre, a North Carolina-based non-profit, and everything we raise goes straight to them.
Independent theaters are struggling more than ever, partly because of the rise of streaming media. We're going to flip the tables and use that media to keep the spirit of independent film alive.
Here's a bit more information about the Durham, NC based Carolina Theatre, in their own words:

More than 90 years after opening as the Durham Auditorium, the Carolina Theatre has become one of its city’s most beloved institutions. The historic venue presents vibrant, thought-provoking film and live performances that contribute to the cultural and economic vitality of downtown Durham and the Triangle Region.
Strengthened from weathering nine decades of social, political and economic change, the Carolina Theatre continues to be a source of civic pride; an important marker of historic change; a valuable touchstone for the community; a crucial resource for education through the arts, and a beacon attracting visitors to partake in — and contribute to — the bright future of its city’s downtown."
