BENEFITING: EDGE OF SEVEN INC
EVENT DATE: Nov 18, 2011
In light of a rather challenging past year, Dave and I have decided to shift our perspective and celebrate the things we have in our lives and find fulfillment in giving back to those who have less.
In October, Dave and I rant the Denver half marathon to help support Edge of 7 and now I will be volunteering with them in Nepal to build a school for girls in an area where girls are not typically educated past 8th grade. Most are married off by at 14.
The goal of this project is to reduce poverty in the Everest region of Nepal by reducing gender disparity in education, reducing biodiversity loss, reducing the number of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation, and increasing the share of women in wage employment. Edge of 7's goal is to create scalable infrastructure and programs that can be replicated throughout Nepal in the coming years.
I am excited to see a new part of the world, I am excited to help in giving a Nepalese girl an opportunity she wouldn't otherwise have, and I am excited to come home having gained a greater understanding and appreciation of just how much I have to be thankful for.
If you would like to help me raise a portion of my volunteer fees, I would be incredibly greatful. The funds will go directly towards the project and I promise to put lots of love and appreciation for you into our labor in building that school!
