Two of my passions in life are running and nature. I have a strong connection to trees and always feel renewed after spending time in a forest, or simply sitting under a tree.
This year I have been inspired to link my passions for running and nature into a fund raising effort. In 2012, I will run 12 miles on the 12th day of each month (yes that means getting up REALLY early when the 12th is on a work day). My goal is that by 12/12/12, I will run 12 miles for the 12th time and have raised at least $7200 (that's 1200 x 6) for The Earth Child Institute.
This organization, which is recognized as a NGO associate by the United Nations Department of Public Information, has a mission to plant trees and help provide access to clean water in areas affected by deforestation and degradation. They also educate and empower young people through innovative formal and non-formal participatory approaches from an early age, with the critical thinking and sustainable values and tools they need to develop and lead a truly green economy. These essential components will enable children all over the world to plant trees and preserve forest ecosystems, while shifting cultural and societal trends away from overexploitation of resources and environmental degradation.
Your donation of $12 to ECI will support their efforts for Mother Earth and her children worldwide and will plant 6 trees educating and engaging children through ECI efforts in Ghana. A donation of $144 (that's $12 for each of my runs) will support ECI's efforts for Mother Earth and her children worldwide and will plant 75 trees educating and children through ECI's efforts in Ghana. 12 to the 6th's powers funds will specifically support two schools in Ghana, Baifi-Kroma M/A Primary/Junior High School and Kyeakor Nureedeen Islamic Primary/Junior High Schools.
