EVENT DATE: Oct 04, 2014
Each night in Seattle, 700–1,000 young people have no safe place to sleep. That’s thousands of homeless youth every year — stuck in survival mode.
Most were traumatized before they reached our streets. Each day they spend on them will take its toll. It isn’t difficult to understand why so many chronically homeless adults report having been homeless as youth.
For 40 years, YouthCare has been a leader in providing effective services to Seattle's homeless youth. Since they opened as a three-bed shelter in 1974, YouthCare has grown to become a community-based agency with six sites serving the greater Seattle area. By advocating a "continuum of care" their programs work to help that kid in the doorway become a kid in school, an adult on the job, an independent and stable citizen. Their successes inspire, but their resources are limited.
We will be running our first half-marathon (GASP!) on October 4th in Leavenworth and are dedicating all 13.1 miles to the amazing efforts of YouthCare. This is an organization that has captured both of our hearts. So, we ask you- our friends and family- to help us as we try to pay forward the love and support you have given us over the years. Every dollar makes a huge difference to these kinds. Don't let them be forgotten any longer.
And just to keep things interesting, if you help us raise our goal of $2,000.00 we will both do the entire race in LEDERHOSEN (it is Oktoberfest, after all). Yes, BOTH of us
