BENEFITING: Sarcoma Foundation of America
EVENT DATE: Apr 27, 2013
In January 2010, Ashton was diagnosed with a very rare type of cancer called pediatric aveolar rhabdomyosarcoma. He endured a grueling regimen of surgeries, radiation, & 40 weeks of chemotherapy. On December 14, 2010, he was declared cancer free. A few months later in April 2011, Ashton had another cancer-free check up & we celebrated together in Nashville for Team #ATB’s 1st annual half marathon. Ashton was able to spend Summer 2011 healthy and his friends will tell you it was the best summer of their lives. But by June 2011, the cancer was back.
The first year we ran Ash and his parents were able to come to Nashville and celebrate his recent cancer-free report. The next year we ran in his memory. This year, we are running to celebrate his life and his family. Julie, Todd, and Morgan are an inspiration. Whether they realize it or not, they are carrying on Ashton’s courage and strength. They are giving of themselves for others, even in the face of an unthinkable reality. Just like he did. I am so very blessed to have all four of them as family.
So today I ask that, if you are able, you help support the Sarcoma Foundation of America and their quest to fight this thing that took our brave Ashton. Thank you for helping us to remember a hero and honor his sweet family.
