On Sept-7,2013 while visiting The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp for a day of volunteering. I met a young man named Liam and his mom MaryEllen. Liam is a 15 year old boy who has been battling an illness since the age of three. He greeted me with a smile that glowed with happiness. As he sat on the bench with an IV attached to his arm. Liam his mom and I began to talk. In the hours that followed my mind was filled with the profound words and insight of what Liam goes through & what a family deals with when the road of life deals them such a heart breaking hand. The day was not filled with just words of heart break and sorrow. It became a day filled with people joining together in an effort to bring hope and happiness, fun and joy, and that magical kind of healing that The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp is known for to children and their families coping with serious illnesses. In the weeks after my visit to Camp Hole in the Wall, I kept thinking about Liam and his words of how the Camp changed his life and how he hopes to someday be well enough to become a counsler and help other seriously ill children to feel that Magical kind of healing that the Camp has to offer.
On July 27, 2014 I will be taking on the 140.6 mile Lake Placid Ironman Triathlon in an effort to bring Fun, Smiles & Happiness to seriously ill children.
I hope that my effort can raise more awareness and charitable donations for The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp so that more children, like Liam, can have the opportunity to have their lives, and their family's lives, touched by the magical kind of healing that children receive from The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp.
