16 years later We still remember 9/11

EVENT: BFST's 7th Annual 9/11 Memorial Mt Climb

EVENT DATE: Sep 11, 2017

Isela Robles

Since 2010 it has been a tradition of Bigger Faster Stronger Training to hold an annual 9/11 memorial fundraiser in Texas. Wings For Warriors has fortunately been the recipient of the proceeds of this event for the past several years, and we are forever grateful for their support in our endeavors and the opportunity to be a part of such a great event. The Houston community has always been ready to push our cause forward and this year, in their time of need, it is time for us give back. In response to the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, Wings for Warriors has agreed to donate 50% of this year’s fundraiser proceeds to the 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization OATH Inc; specifically to their Texas Chapter. Outdoor Association for True Heroes, Incorporated, or OATH, Inc., headquarters are in the greater Houston area and have been directly impacted by this catastrophe. Despite this, they have had their boots on the ground since Harvey hit and have been helping their neighbors with supplies and rescue convoys.

Every year we honor the nation-wide support system that our country creates to help in times of crisis. As we remember the events of 9/11, we can't think of any better way to honor the memory of those who lost their lives than to continue their mission of helping those in need.

When facing this catastrophe every dollar helps. The areas affected by Hurricane Harvey have a long and rough road of recovery ahead. We aim to make this road a little smoother, one donation at a time. We thank you ahead of time for your donation, and hope to see you at our event (see details below).

Pictured above is the founder of OATH Inc transporting Hurricane Harvey victims to safety.

There were 110 stories in each Twin Tower, 220 combined. Although there is no set number that we can find, the average number of individual stairs within a flight of stairs (a story) seems to be 20. Mt. Bonnell has 99 stairs that lead to the top of the highest point in all of Austin, which also happens to look over one of Austin's most beautiful scenic views. Those 99 individual stairs equals to 4.95 stories per climb, we'll call it an even 5.

In order to reach the equivalent of running up BOTH Twin Towers- 220 stories- to pay ultimate homage, one would need to climb Mt Bonnell 44 times. That, ladies and gentlemen, is what we have done for the past six years and will do so again this year.

We'll meet atop Mt. Bonnell at 7AM on Monday, September 11th, and start shortly thereafter. There will be an "intermission/halftime" as we hold a moment of silence at 7:46am (the time the first tower was struck) to pay tribute to all the innocent lives we lost on that tragic day, as well as for every life that's been taken since then as a result of those attacks. We will never forget.

Mount Bonnell Park is a non-reservable park so, like every year until we can convince the city otherwise, this is an "unofficial-official event". With that being said, please do not feel discouraged if you can't make our start time, you have all day to knock it out on your own! We created this event with the idea and hopes to get everybody out and moving, on 9/11 to honor the fallen. There is nothing like climbing those stairs in the Texas heat with old and new friends, together. United, we look forward to honoring the fallen by pushing ourselves with you by our side.
