THE STORY:

" I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the water to create many ripples."
-Mother Teresa

Who: ME! (And 169 other people from around the world!)

What?
- The Grand to Grand Ultra
- 170 mile running stage race over 7 days
- We will carry all food, gear, and sleeping needs (besides tents) for the duration of the week...
- Blood, sweat, tears, blisters, gratitude

When? (43 days!)
September 24-September 30

Where?
-Through the remote desert: Grand Canyon (Arizona) to Grand Staircase (Utah)

Why?
I'm turning 30. We only get one shot to live our best life. We are all blessed with gifts and talents, and it is up to us to tap into the power of these in our individual lives. I feel so fortunate to use the gift of running as an outlet to raise awareness for charities that align with my passion for helping families affected by autism around the world.

RAISING MONEY AND AWARENESS FOR....

Who?
-Alexis Miranda Foundation-

Alexis is a beautiful, young woman diagnosed with autism. I had the privilege of working with Alexis and her family back in 2011. They have made a tremendous impact on my life, and now they are impacting the world (my kinda people!).

Alexis' mom, Lynn, is originally from Ghana and she started a foundation in Ghana in honor of Alexis. Many people talk about changing the world- she is acting on it, and she is making a global difference for children and families affected by autism and other disabilities.

What (the foundation is about)...
The foundation was established in Ghana to help increase Autism awareness globally and to support families and providers of children with learning disabilities. The Alexis Miranda Foundation (AMF) is committed to enhancing the quality of life for individuals and families impacted by Autism and other disabilities, and they want to assist each child to reach their full potential by helping them build competency and confidence.

Where (is your money going?)
- Currently, the Alexis Miranda Foundation is collaborating with the International Medical Equipment Collaborative (IMEC) to support or renovate a number of special needs institutions in Ghana. They are specifically re-organizing schools and classrooms to meet the unique needs for children with autism.

Additionally, the Foundation is looking to purchase smart boards and iPads to facilitate interactive and engaging learning.

Why (does this foundation exist?)
- Ghana has a population of over 28 million people; about 5 million people with disabilities (but such limited services for these individuals, and there is a lack of knowledge/awareness on how to best support these individuals and their families so they can make ongoing progress)
- As of 2016, there were only 4 Speech and Language Pathologists in all of Ghana, and there are not any Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA).
- The Foundation will help to train support staff from various regions in Ghana by sending volunteers from the United States (Speech, BCBA, OT, teachers) to collaborate with them on how to effectively support children with disabilities. The first volunteer training crew will go to Ghana this August.

I hope to join this team next summer in Ghana. Until then, my goal is to raise $1,707 for this organization. 170 miles in 7 days for autism.

Thank you so much to everyone who continues to support me on these endeavors. Your support, in all formats, means the world to me.
