BENEFITING: ENLACE CHICAGO
EVENT DATE: Dec 31, 2012
From January 2012 to September 2012, I ventured on a goal to improve my health and wellbeing. The results have truly been life changing and eye opening.
In 8 months, I was able to lose 180 pounds through lifestyle changes which consisted of a strict exercise and healthier-eating regiment. I lost more than half of my entering weight. I went from 344lbs to 164lbs - bringing me, for the first time in my life, to "normal weight" (per the body mass index [BMI]).
A lifetime goal of mine has always been to run a race, and for the first time, I feel confident and able to complete a race. On November 3, 2012, I will be running the "Carrera de los Muertos" 5K Race in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois.
In honor of my weight loss and of running my first race, I thought it would be a cool and great idea to raise money for two non-profit organizations that have made an impact in/on my life (and the life of many others).
The money raised will be evenly divided between Enlace Chicago and the General Robert E. Wood Boys & Girls Club, a Boys & Girls Club of Chicago!
- Enlace Chicago is a phenomenal community organization that focuses on the community and the residents of the Little Village neighborhood (in Chicago). Their emphasis is in making a positive difference via four (4) program areas: Community Education, Community Enrichment, Economic Development, and Violence Prevention. (http://www.enlacechicago.org/)
- The General Robert E. Wood Boys & Girls Club, my local Club in Little Village, is an after school haven for young people (especially for those whom need the most), that fosters hope and opportunity. It is a safe place to learn and grow; a place that offers life-enhancing programs and character development experiences for young people. (http://generalwood.bgcc.org/)
If you would like to express your support in honor of the weight loss and the 5K race, I urge you to make a contribution, in any amount you wish, to help these two great Chicago organizations! Your donations will make a positive and strong impact on many, many others!
