Milwaukee Christian Center (MCC) is hosting its annual Bowl-A-Thon Fundraiser, celebrating 95 years of empowering communities. My team, "Dude, This is a League Game" is back, and I need your generous help so our work can continue. I've got big shoes to fill, so please consider giving. Any size donation is appreciated!
A bit about Milwaukee Christian Center-
Founded in 1921 by an American Baptist and deeply tied to the history and development of Milwaukee's south side and the immigrant populations who have called it home, Milwaukee Christian Center (MCC) has evolved into a broad-based social service organization supported by and serving everyone in our community regardless of faith, race or age.
Today, MCC works towards its mission of moving people beyond the challenges of poverty through youth development, senior support, food security, and neighborhood improvement programs.
While I 'm lucky to work with all of our programs, I have been especially focused on our youth development and neighborhood improvement work in the past year.
Youth Development - MCC works with youth and their families to prevent violence and risky behaviors, promote high school graduation and future career success, and engage youth in building strong schools and neighborhoods. Our Violence Free Zone program employs amazingly talented and dedicated youth workers who work in MPS schools to increase student engagement and develop positive leaders. Our new Young Professionals Academy, beginning this year, is providing workforce development training for high school students and placing youth in what is likely to be their first job. Our Youth Development program, housed out of Kosciuszko Communtiy Center, provides numerous outlets for young people to explore and 'learn through doing' from boxing to the arts to hands-on science in our gecko-filled nature room. In all MCC runs 6 youth development programs serving the south side and beyond.
Neighborhood Improvement - MCC's neighborhood improvement work includes new home construciton, home rehab, construction training for young adults, and resident-driven organizing. Our NIP (Neighborhood Improvment Project) rehabs and builds new homes that are sold to low-income new homeowners, repairs existing low-income homeowners' homes to bring them up to code for free, and - what I am most involved in - runs a YouthBuild program providing young adults (age 18-24) with education and hands-on construction training while building homes for low/moderate income families. The YouthBuild program provides a space for young adults to serve their community while earning their GED and going on to jobs with family-supporting wages.
Please consider giving and sharing with others. Thank you!
