The 1940 Air Terminal Museum is a 501 (c)(3) non-for-profit organization and museum housed in a historical property; the first passenger air terminal in Houston, Texas. Not only are we one of the few remaining art deco air terminals in the country, we are one of the few remaining art deco public use buildings in the city of Houston. We are the only air museum in the city of Houston with artifact exhibits and a dedicated collections base.
The majority of our artifact donations come from the people directly associated with aviation history. We are the primary repository for much of Houston's civilian aviation history, as well as airlines like Trans-Texas/Texas International and Continental Airlines. Given the building's historical use we decided to showcase civilian aviation history- including commercial, general, and business aviation.
In order to properly research, store and display our artifacts we need a computerized database that will allow us to categorize and recall information on the quantity, quality and whereabouts of our thousands of artifacts. The system would allow us to call up digital images of each object and to finally perfect our historical image collection. We would also be able to create a web-based rotating exhibit so that more of our collection would be accessible to a larger part of the public. We are running this campaign to purchase the cataloging software along with some equipment improvements in order to run it.
Thanks for considering our project! Please visit us at www.1940airterminal.org for more information!
