BENEFITING: Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston
ORGANIZER: Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston
EVENT: 2012 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 16, 2012
On April 16th, I am going to do something that I hope will greatly impact the lives of local kids in the Boston area. I will be running the 2012 Boston Marathon on behalf of the Boys and Girls Club of Boston. Thank you for taking the time to read this page to understand how I got here.
Over the past year, I have started to pursue and thoroughly enjoy long distance endurance events. I competed in the Boston Marathon in April, 2011, and also in the Timbermann 70.3 Ironman in August, 2011. Through these events I have learned a lot about myself, and a lot about the indescribable feeling you get from sacrificing your time and effort on behalf of someone else. This year, I could not be more excited to be fundraising for an amazing organization like the Boys and Girls Club of Boston.
The mission of the Boys and Girls Club of Boston is, “To help young people, especially those who need it most, build strong character and realize their full potential as responsible citizens and leaders.” They do this by exposing underprivileged and at-risk youth kids to life-enhancing programs that make sure they are surrounded and mentored by caring adults. This is something extremely important that many of them lack in their day-to-day lives. The Boys and Girls Club of Boston currently serves approximately 14,000 youth ranging in age between 6 and 18. They are changing Boston’s youth right before our eyes!
I ask that you help me reach my fundraising goal of $2,500 by making a tax-deductable donation. Thank you in advance for your consideration. Regardless of whether or not you are able to participate, I know that you join me in supporting this amazing cause.
All the Best,

The Myra H. Kraft Giving Back Scholarship Fund was established in 2003 by Myra’s four sons to honor her on the occasion of Robert and Myra's 40th wedding anniversary. The Fund provides financial support for college to outstanding members of Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston (BGCB) who give their time and talents to the community and understand the importance of helping others. Since Myra’s passing in July 2011, the Fund has grown significantly and will provide more Club members with critical financial aid for college for generations to come.
According to The College Board, a typical full-time, year-round worker with a four-year college degree earns greater than 60% more than a high school graduate during his/her working life. The majority of our Club members come from low-income communities where only a small percentage of adults have attended college. In fact, 50% of our members come from households with an annual income of less than $27,000.
BGCB's mission is to help young people, especially those who need us most, build strong character and realize their full potential as responsible citizens and leaders. By supporting the Myra H. Kraft Giving Back Scholarship Fund you will help extend the mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston to further impact the lives of the individuals we serve.
