BENEFITING: 3Strands Global, Inc.
On Saturday, September 29, 2012, my cousin, Monique Castain is coordinating this event with other board members. I have already registered to participate in the 3rd Annual Run For Courage 5k and 10k run in Folsom, CA and I need your support! Here is my runforcourage page:
Run For Courage exists to raise awareness about the rapidly growing crime of sex trafficking in the United States. Official estimates place the number of at risk youth between 100,000 and 300,000 in the U.S. alone. The average age of these victims is 13--the age of a typical 7th grader. This crime crosses all economic, social and racial boundaries. Last year, Run For Courage raised over $100,000 to help organizations whose programs restore these young survivors.
I am involved with Run For Courage because I want to help make a difference in these survivor's lives, most of whom have no voice in society. They desperately need us. Please help me by supporting this wonderful mission!
To make a donation on my behalf and help me reach my fundraising goals, please click on the "Support Me" button or to join me in my efforts and run or walk on September 29.
You can always come cheer me on at the Folsom Parkway Trails at 8:00am on September 29th too. There will be numerous vendors, sponsors and others present with food, services, information and games. Last year, there was even a flash mob! Don't miss it!
Thank you so much for your support.
Update (Friday, Aug 17, 2012) I don't have the funds to fly out to Folsom, CA to run in this event, but I will be a virtual runner here in the Dallas area. Please support this organization by making a contribution, register to run in person in CA, or support in your home town on that date.
Run For Courage, Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation dedicated to combating the crime of sex trafficking. For more information, www.runforcourage.org
P.S. On a personal note, I am a retired Army Major (Corps of Engineers) and left the service in 1996. I currently teach at risk (or I should say at promise students at Winfree Academy). I know in the past we have had some students who were reported missing, ran away from home, worked as dancers at adult clubs, etc. I suspect that some could have been victims of this terrible crime. I am really out of shape, and I really need to lose some pounds. Your contribution to this cause will give me the encouragement to attempt to run 5K. I used to run 10Ks in the Army, but that was over 20 years ago.
