Dear Friends and Family,
This is a big year for Signe and me. It is our tenth year together. It is the third time in our relationship that we've lived in different cities. It is the year that I left a terrific job as a lawyer at WilmerHale in DC for a dream job as the Managing Director of Schools for a network of charter schools in New York City. And, it is the year that I, rather than Signe, will run a marathon -- the 2012 ING New York City Marathon.
Some people qualify for marathons. I have to buy my way in. Or, more accurately, you have to buy my way in. They won’t let me participate unless I raise $3,000 before race day – November 4. The good news is, the money goes to a good cause: Success Academies, my employer and the operator of 14 high-performing (and incredible) charter schools.
Success Academy’s goal is to provide world-class education for our 4,600 scholars and to forever alter the educational prospects for all public school children. Over the next decade, our network will grow to 40 schools that provide a phenomenal K-8 public education to NYC school children. I hope you will support me and Success Academies with a donation!
The last time I asked many of you for money I was preparing to bike 3,600 miles across the United States with Global Exchange. Thanks to your generosity, I got to go. On that trip, I saw the United States from the saddle of a mountain bike, I met Signe, and we achieved our goal of establishing global peace and justice (you’re welcome). Imagine what I could accomplish with your help this fall!
If you are in New York for the marathon on November 4, please let me know. I'd love to catch you on the course.
Thanks for your support.
