BENEFITING: Clearwater Initiative
EVENT DATE: Oct 21, 2012
Join Team ClearWater in our efforts to raise $36,000 by October 21, 2012! A group of dedicated volunteers and runners will pound out the Army Ten-Miler race in Washington, DC to raise funds for ClearWater, enabling us to expand our footprint in Uganda.
ClearWater Initiative was founded in 2007 by Benjamin Sklaver, an American soldier deployed to the Horn of Africa to work with refugees and internally displaced civilians returning to their homes after 20 years of civil war. Ben witnessed the lack of clean water in remote communities and founded ClearWater to address this basic human need.
Ben was killed in October 2009 while serving in Afghanistan, where he was creating sustainable infrastructure and bringing the same sense of hope that he had brought to Uganda. Since his death, we have worked to fulfill his vision of compassion and hope for those whose lives are challenged by strife and uncertainty. Our goal has remained the same: to bring water and, ultimately, health and opportunity to those far less fortunate than we.
ClearWater Initiative is dedicated to promoting simple, sustainable solutions for the provision of clean water to populations in need. We fund both established and innovative clean water solutions, such as borehole repairs, protected springs and well drilling, with an emphasis on community mobilization and training. ClearWater currently operates in northern Uganda.
